Slab Sunday: Golden Crystal granite

Golden Crystal is quarried in a bedrock quarry in Brazil.
The only other name for Golden Crystal I've seen is Wuhan Beige.
Let me know if you've heard it called anything else.

I wouldn't think to pair it with orange walls, but I think this bathroom below is beautiful.

Golden Crystal varies A LOT from bundle to bundle.
I know I've said it a million times now, but be sure to pick out your exact slabs.

Usually when people use two different colors of granite in a kitchen they will do Absolute Black on the perimeter and then a granite with a lot of veining and movement on the island.  I like that they did the opposite in the photo below.

The interesting thing about the gold and rust colors in granites like Golden Crystal is that it's caused by water that has penetrated into the stone through small cracks and fissures,
causing the iron oxide and other minerals to oxidize.
This takes millions of years.

Golden Crystal is on of my personal favorite granites in the gold/ rust family when it's the right slab.  I think I like it because of all the white.  My favorite slabs have lots of white.  I debated and debated between this and Lapidus for my own kitchen and I have to say I regret choosing Lapidus.  I like the Lapidus in my kitchen, but I like the Golden Crystal more.  The Golden Crystal in the photo below is how I like it.

Golden Crystal is available in 2 cm and 3 cm slabs.

I've never seen Golden Crystal before, it's gorgeous!
I love Slab Sunday because I always get to see stones that are new to me without having to go to a slab yard. I can just see them from the comfort of my own couch in my jammies! :)

What are the major colors in Golden Crystal? Is there ALOT of gray or veins of grey? There is also rust and gold tones, right?? the photos of it here are georgeous...I just need confirmation in my mind. Thank you so much. Judy

Hi Judy-
It really depends on the particular bundle of slabs that you select.
Usually the main colors are grey, cream and rust. They can have a lot more rust sometimes and a lot more grey sometimes.

I have Golden Crystal in leather finish rather than polished. I think it makes the rich rusts, browns & creams sing. My slab also has a bit of purple that resemble geodes. I love how unique it is. It's the center piece of my house!

What tile and tile design would you recommend for Golden Crystal. I am stumped. I don't want too busy since the granite has a lot of movement. Also there is a lot of rust in mine and my cabinets have that tone as well. My paint color goes great which is a Sherwin William softer tan. Has a golden creamy look. Please help! I have had the granite for 3 yrs now and everyone wants to know when are you going to finish this?? I have brought home so many different samples, please help! I was thinking of maybe plain, off white stone in 4X4 or 6x6 to bring out the whitish color in the granite and let the granite be the focal point but then with so many beautiful tiles now available I just don't know.

Anonymous with the tile questions-
Email me at stephanie@mgsbydesign.com. I have a few questions for you and then I'd be happy to make some tile recommendations!

I also would like some help with paint colors and backsplash ideas for my golden crystal granite. My island has cream cabinets with glazing and the perimeter cabinets are deep distressed cherry.
