Dark kitchens and baths are equally as beautiful though. I think we will see more and more rich black and navy blue kitchens and baths this year.
The key to making a dark room not look like a cave is to have one of the larger elements of the room be white or light colored. For example, in the photo above the floors and window trim are white, in the kitchen below it's the countertops and backplash.
In this next kitchen it's the ceiling that is white. This white element really opens up the room. Using a dark color in a room does not necessarily make the room look smaller, when it's done correctly it can often make the room look larger. I think that is the case with all the kitchens that I have pictured here.
Scared of using a dark color on every wall and/or cabinet? There's always the accent wall! This navy blue wall really pops the yellow accents in the room.
So am I wrong? Do these kitchens look too cave-like to you? Or do you like a dark kitchen?

They are all nice and in some houses they would be perfect, but I'll never fall in love with a dark kitchen like I do with all the great white kitchens out there.
I agree Erin. I think the classic white kitchen appeals to most people and will forever.
I'd probably save a black kitchen for the Wet Bar...
