White kitchens and baths are definitely the hottest trend I am seeing right now. It's also the subject I get asked about the most. From white Carrara marble to white quartz there is a lot to consider when using white countertops.
Whiteout Wednesday is a weekly feature where I show five kitchens and/ or baths that have used white in a beautiful way.
If you have a white kitchen or bath that you would like to see featured here please email me.

Marble and Granite for Furniture Projects

A lot of people think "Kitchens and baths" when they think of granite and marble tops, but did you know that a stone top can be added to just about any piece of furniture? Upcycled and DIY furniture is hugely popular right now, and amazing things can happen when you add custom fabricated stone to your projects.  Your local stone fabricator (Hey! That's us!) usually has a remnant or "bone yard" with small pieces of slab perfect for projects like this. We've done some before and have several in the works right now, which is what got me thinking about this post.

This is an adorable side table that we put a marble top on for a customer's DIY project, and it turned out great.

Here are a few other ideas to get your creative juices flowing.  We have several remnants in our yard right now and we would love to help you pick the perfect piece for your next furniture restoration project.  I will admit that seeing these photos while researching for this post started my gears turning in a big way!

Saturday Link Up!

Where did May go?!?  I can't believe it's already Memorial weekend.  I hope you are all enjoying your long weekend.  I'm so happy summer is here.  :)
I have a few things I wanted to link up today...

I just heard about the greatest new website, Cultivate.  It's all about kitchen design...what could be better?  :)
Designed By: Kristin Petro.  Photo: Cultivate.
Kitchen Designer, Susan Serra, has a great article on the blog, The Daily Basics, called Kitchen Trends- Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow.  If you are going to be remodeling or building a new kitchen anytime soon this is a must read.

FAQ Friday: Farmhouse Sink in the Bathroom?

This question comes from Anne-
"I follow you on Pinterest and recently saw that you pinned an image of a bathroom vanity that had a farmhouse sink.  Is this a thing?  I've honestly never seen it before, but I think I like it.  I'm going for a modern country house in my remodel and I think it would look cool in my kid's bath.  What do you think?"

Thanks for the question Anne.
I like the look of it, especially if your style is modern country.  I would assume the functionality of a farmhouse sink would be great.  I love a big sink in the bathroom.  In fact I try to steer people away from tiny sinks whenever I can.
You could wash a small dog or bathe a child in one of these sinks and I think that may be pretty darn handy!
Here are some pictures I found of farmhouse sinks in bathrooms...

Grey & Yellow Kitchens

Grey and yellow is a color combo that was really popular a few years ago....and then turquoise stole it's thunder.  :)
I still love this color combo and from what I see on the interior design and diy blogs you guys still love it too.
Today I have five really fun grey and yellow kitchens!

Whiteout Wednesday: 5 White Kitchens with Open Shelving

Do you like open shelving in the kitchen or would you prefer upper cabinets?
We are definitely seeing more open shelving than ever, even if it's just mixed with upper cabinets.
I know it's not for everyone, you'd definitely have to be diligent about keeping the shelves organized and nice looking or else your kitchen would always look messy.
I love the open look!  If you have enough storage space in other areas of the kitchen I think it's a great way to get a beautifully open and airy kitchen.

Accent Walls with Full Slabs of Onyx & Marble

The hubs and I watched the movie Crazy, Stupid, Love over the weekend and in the bar where Steve Carell is hanging out they have an amazing wall of onyx.
The photo below is the best picture I could find.  As you can see in the top left it's two slabs that are bookmatched.  It's backlit as well which really makes the onyx stunning.

Sometimes slabs are just too beautiful to cut up!  That's when we need to think outside of the countertop.  We can hang slabs on walls, surround a fireplace with the slab, frame it like a picture or use the slab as the actual wall.
Here are a few examples...

Waterfall Edge in the Bathroom

The "Waterfall Edge" is what we call it when the countertop material continues down the side of the cabinet to the floor.
We've talked a lot about the Waterfall Edge in kitchens here on the blog, these posts are among our most popular.
Did you know that we do this edge in bathrooms as well?
Today I have five beautiful bathrooms that have used the oh-so-cool Waterfall Edge.

Slab Sunday: Wild West granite

Wild West granite is quarried in Brazil.

Photo: Star Granite Interiors
Wild West is a stunning and unique stone.  When I worked at a slab yard years ago it was fun to watch our customers just stop and stare at this granite.  It looks just like a painting, the movement of the stone looks like brush strokes.
