In an effort to be more diverse I thought I'd show different design styles in kitchens this week.
I'll be covering one style per day including Traditional, Country, Craftsman, Vintage Modern and Rustic.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In a nutshell Vintage Modern style is mixing old and new. Simple enough right?
It's actually harder to define than I thought it would be. I'm realizing it's more of a "I know it when I see it" type of style.
Urban Dictionary defines it as "Referring to Modern elements in design, art, and photography that reference and borrow from Vintage elements, or use vintage items interspersed within Modern."
Vintage Modern kitchens will have clean lines and then elements that are vintage, such as lights, barstools, tables & chairs, accessories, fixtures & hardware, etc.
The key to Vintage Modern kitchens is keeping them looking modern. You don't want to go overboard with the vintage elements or then it's just a vintage kitchen with no modern.

Ahhhhhh. So lovely. I suppose it will come as no surprise to know that that last one is serving as a large bit of inspiration for our kitchen remodel. I love these.
ReplyDeleteI love that last kitchen too Erin! I think it's a fantastic inspiration pic.
ReplyDeleteI loved all of these kitchens, but I personally don't have the eye/talent to pull off Vintage Modern. I'd need help.
Great photos - thanks for sharing! I love how different American modern kitchens are, from the Europeans (see http://www.european-kitchen-design.com) and they are both considered modern...
